Hundreds of Marijuana Plants Seized from Temecula Home

by Contributing Editor

Hundreds of marijuana plants were discovered inside a Temecula home where sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate a burglary, authorities said Thursday.

The indoor grow was uncovered about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 45100 block of Morgan Heights Road, near Starpoint Street, less than a mile north of the Pechanga Indian Reservation, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Jon Wade said deputies were sent to the location after a witness called 911, saying he had observed five masked men dressed in black force their way into the two-story residence.

When deputies arrived, they found a sliding glass door ajar and went into the house to conduct a search, at which point they found about 700 cannabis plants in various stages of growth, under heat lamps, according to Wade. No suspects were located.

After obtaining a search warrant, sheriff’s investigators seized the plants, Wade said.

“Additionally, an extensive amount of water damage, vandalism and illegal modifications were located inside the residence in order to operate the illegal grow,” he said. “Lastly, the electrical supply to the residence had been illegally altered and tampered with allowing the theft of electrical services.”

The operators of the grow have not been identified.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Southwest Station at 951-696-3000.
