Two San Dimas schools were locked down Thursday when a 911 caller falsely claimed there was a person with a gun at one of the campuses, and a student was later arrested in connection with the hoax.
The call came at 9:38 a.m. to the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station claiming there was a man with a gun on the basketball courts at San Dimas High School, 800 W. Covina Blvd., according to sheriff’s and school officials.
The San Dimas sheriff’s station called for a lockdown at San Dimas High School and nearby Lone Hill Middle School, 700 S. Lone Hill Ave. as a precaution, Bonita Unified School District Superintendent Carl J. Coles said in a statement to the community.
“Every student was moved inside a classroom or an office,” Coles said.
San Dimas sheriff’s deputies searched the entire high school campus room by room for a suspect, he said. Sheriff’s officials declared the campus safe at about 11:15 a.m.
“No weapon was found, there was no actual sighting of a person with a gun,” Coles said. “They learned that this call was a prank call by a student. This student was detained and taken into custody for making the prank call.”
There were no injuries, he said.
