Ontario police have not yet been able to speak to the woman they say is “solely responsible” for the deaths of her infant and teen daughters, whose bodies were found in the garage of the family home.
The sisters were ages 4 months and 14 years. Ontario Sgt. Bill Russell described the teen as a special-needs child, and he said there was evidence of a struggle in the home.
The mother, who has not been identified, was hospitalized after the girls’ bodies were found Tuesday afternoon in the two-story home on the 500 block of East Tam O’ Shanter Street. The mother was found with them.
Detectives were not able to speak to her Wednesday, Russell said Thursday morning.
The mother was described as injured and unresponsive, with her ability to talk and comprehend not yet determined. Her life was not in danger, Russell said Wednesday.
Detectives have determined the woman was “solely responsible” for the deaths of her daughters. Police found two suicide notes, and said the mother had declared she intended to kill the children, then kill herself.
Russell said detectives learned she had issues with depression.
The children and wife were found by the family’s father, who called police.
Russell described the man, who is the woman’s husband, as “distraught” and said he was never a suspect in the case.
