Two Arrested At Palm Springs DUI Checkpoint For Non DUI-Related Crimes

by Contributing Editor

Police arrested two people at a DUI checkpoint in Palm Springs, but not for driving while intoxicated, it was announced Tuesday.

A checkpoint was operated from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday in the 2300 block of E. Ramon Road, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

Officers screened 469 vehicles, and arrested two people — one for possessing a controlled substance and another for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

No DUI arrests were made, police said.

Nine motorists were additionally citied for driving unlicensed.

Checkpoint locations are chosen based on historical data related to DUI crashes and arrests.

Those arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol can spend time in jail and pay up to $13,500, including fines, fees, classes, license suspensions and other expenses.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
