by Contributing Editor

Firefighters extinguished a fire that burned a vacant house Thursday in the Vermont-Slauson area of Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire inside the house at 842 W. 69th St. was reported just before 6 p.m., spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

The department dispatched 44 firefighters to the scene, she added.

The first floor was destroyed and firefighters were searching the second floor for any possible victims even though the house was reported to be vacant, Stewart said.

The flames were knocked down in about 44 minutes, she said.
