Two Teenage Boys Arrested Following Fight at Palm Springs Trump Rally

by Contributing Editor

Two teenage boys are facing potential criminal charges stemming from a fight that broke out at a weekend rally in support of President Donald Trump in Palm Springs, police said Monday.

The rally occurred Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Gene Autry Trail and Ramon Road, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

A group of youths began hassling rally-goers about 4 p.m., which morphed into a fight, police said. Two boys, ages 14 and 15, subsequently assaulted one of the Trump supporters before running away, police said.

A rally-goer who witnessed the attack chased the two teens down and tried to grab one of the boys by the arm “to detain him,” and the youth pulled an airsoft pistol from his waistband and struck the unidentified person over the head multiple times, according to police.

The victim suffered moderate injuries in the attack, but was still able to hold one of the teens down until officer arrived, police said.

Both boys, whose names were withheld because they are underage, were taken into custody at the scene. The 14-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked at Juvenile Hall in Indio, while the 15-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing a high-capacity magazine for a handgun but was released to his parents at the scene.

Police are asking any witnesses to come forward by calling 760-323-8116. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867.
