According to the Ventura County Fire Department, the blaze, dubbed the Shirley fire, was burning between Simi Valley and Chatsworth.

“Winds are light but still helping the fire spread,” the Ventura County Fire Department reported.

Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopters were conducting water drops in the area.

“The fire is in mixed rocky, steep terrain, which makes ground access challenging,” according to an LAFD update issued about 1:30 p.m. “However, firefighters are making good progress, and the helicopters are hitting it hard from the sky. This incident is 100% in the County of Ventura, but due to the mutual threat to all three counties, it is a Unified Command with Ventura County Fire, Los Angeles County Fire, Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority and LAFD.”
