Police Renew Call for Assistance Catching Perpetrator of Vicious Attack

by Contributing Editor

Riverside police Tuesday renewed calls for assistance from the public in catching the person who brutalized a senior working inside a store.

The victim, whose name was not disclosed, was attacked on the evening of April 3 in the La Mexicana Market at 3123 Madison St., near Villegas Park.

Last month, the Riverside City Council approved a $10,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension and successful prosecution of the individual responsible.

Riverside police spokesman Officer Ryan Railsback said detectives have made little headway in their investigation and are hoping someone may have information that provides new leads.

According to Railsback, little is known regarding what transpired, other than that the victim was working in the shop about 6:30 p.m. on April 3 when he was struck over the head, suffering severe trauma.

A witness found the man unconscious and called 911.

“The victim is still recovering with-life changing injuries,” Railsback said.

The reward is valid for another 19 days, at which point it will lapse, or the City Council will have to approve extending it.

Anyone with information on the attack was asked to contact the police department’s Robbery-Homicide Unit at 951-353-7213, or submit details via email at RPDTips@RiversideCA.gov.
