Witnesses Pull Injured Person From Vehicle Stuck on Metrolink Tracks

A two-vehicle crash in Irwindale Wednesday morning left one of the vehicles on the Metrolink tracks and good Samaritans pulled one person from the vehicle as a train approached.

Police responded to the crash in the area of Azusa Canyon Road and Los Angeles Street about 8:05 a.m. and found one of the vehicles had been pushed onto the railroad tracks, blocking the rail line, according to the Irwindale Police Department.

Witnesses to the collision rushed to the Toyota Camry and were able to assist an injured person from the vehicle, police said.

The crash was spotted by the crew of an approaching Metrolink train, who took emergency action to stop the train east of the crossing and avoid a collision with the stuck vehicle on the tracks, police said.

Three adults involved in the crash suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.

“Kudos to the passersby who removed the injured party from the stuck vehicle and to the Metrolink crew for their quick actions in stopping the train and avoiding a collision with the stopped vehicle,” according to a statement from the Inglewood Police Department.

Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.

Metrolink service was delayed for about 30 minutes while authorities cleared the wrecked car from the tracks.
