Rows of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies dressed in green and tan stood at attention Wednesday as the body of their fallen comrade, Detective Amber Leist, was transported to a Covina mortuary.

Leist was killed in Valley Village in the San Fernando Valley on Sunday when she was struck by a car moments after she helped an elderly women who fell down a crosswalk.

The procession carrying Leist’s body began in East L.A. around 11 a.m. Escorted by numerous police vehicles with their lights flashing, the hearse left the county coroner’s office then passed under an American flag held up by the extended ladders of two fire trucks.

About an hour later, the procession arrived at Malinow and Silverman Mortuary in Covina.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
