GG Police Arrest Cypress Officer For Alleged Sexual Assault

by Contributing Editor

An off-duty Cypress police officer was in custody Saturday morning for allegedly sexually assaulting a victim he met at a bar near his home in Garden Grove.

Neither the victim’s name nor the name of the officer were released by Garden Grove police.

Officers were called to the suspect’s home in the 5500 block of Ludlow Avenue at 3:40 a.m. Friday, said Garden Grove Police Department Lt. Carl Whitney.

According to Whitney, police went to the officer’s house in response to a report of an alleged sexual assault after the victim was able to leave the suspect’s home and tell them they met at a bar and later drove to the officer’s residence where the alleged sexual assault occurred.

When police responded to the location the officer refused to open his door or answer any questions and barricaded himself inside the home for several hours.

Video from the location showed a SWAT team in tactical gear and carrying a battering ram at the scene. After an hours-long standoff, the officer surrendered and was taken into custody.

Cypress police were cooperating with Garden Grove detectives in the investigation, Whitney said. The officer was booked into the Orange County jail.

The suspect has been with the Cypress Police Department since 2008 and was placed on administrative leave, pending an internal affairs investigation, the department said.

No details were released on the booking charges or bail.

Police have not said whether they were searching for other possible victims of this officer.
