SAN FERNANDO — A Simi Valley man charged with murdering his girlfriend’s estranged wife in late July appeared in court Monday but did not enter a plea.
Arraignment for 24-year-old Javier Flores, who was arrested last month, was rescheduled to Dec. 12.
In addition to the murder count, Flores is facing a gun allegation and a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait, making him eligible for the death penalty if convicted in the killing of 24-year-old Cheyenne Brown.
Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek a death sentence for Flores, who is being held without bail.
Brown was gunned down outside her home about 10:25 p.m. July 22 in the 16600 block of Chatsworth Street in Granada Hills.
“Brown had arrived home from work … when she was gunned down next to her vehicle,” according to an LAPD statement. “Witnesses described a full-size truck fleeing the location after the shooting.”
According to police, Brown was the mother of a 2-year-old girl.
Flores was arrested Sept. 12 and charged four days later.
A District Attorney’s statement Monday revealed Brown was the estranged wife of the girlfriend of Flores.
