LOS ANGELES — A woman walking on the 110 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles was struck and killed Saturday by “several vehicles”, a fire department spokeswoman said.
Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 5:15 a.m. to the northbound freeway near Temple Street, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The victim, who was thought to be in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene, Stewart said.
A Sigalert issued at 5:35 a.m. closing the Eighth Street on-ramp to the northbound 110 Freeway was canceled at 8:56 a.m., CHP Officer Stephan Brandt said.
In an apparently grim coincidence, a male pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on the southbound 110 Freeway about 2 1/2 hours earlier Saturday, at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in South Los Angeles.
