PACOIMA — A dump truck crashed into a Pacoima apartment building Tuesday afternoon, seriously injuring one resident.
The man driving the truck and two women at the scene suffered minor injuries in the collision, which was reported at 4:08 p.m. at 12850 Branford St., near Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
The driver declined care, but two others hurt were taken to a hospital for treatment, Humphrey said. One woman in a silver Mazda 3 sedan struck by the dump truck before it crashed into an apartment was in fair condition. The other was inside the apartment and was in serious condition, Humphrey said.
It was initially a frantic scene, as firefighters tore through the debris looking for a male resident who was later determined to be safe at work, Humphrey said.
Firefighters secured natural gas and water utilities and awaited an inspection by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety to assess the structural damage and remove the truck, Humphrey said.
Department of Building and Safety officials red-tagged three of the 28 units in the building but occupants of all of the units were temporarily displaced, Humphrey said. A shelter was set up at Montague Charger Academy, 13000 Montague St. in Arleta.
