Girl Killed in Lancaster Shooting, Brother Sought

by Contributing Editor

A 13-year-old girl was shot and killed in Lancaster and investigators were trying to locate her 18-year-old brother Wednesday, who they suspect shot her.

The shooting was reported about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday in the bedroom of a home in the 1700 block of West Avenue J-15, where Eddie Alvirez, the victim’s brother, was in a bedroom with his two sisters, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Marlena Virginia Alvirez died at a hospital, coroner’s officials reported.

“Eddie was in possession of a gun in the bedroom with the two girls and the gun went off and one of the sisters was struck and she went to the hospital and she died as a result of her injuries,” sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Biddle told NBC4.

Alvirez is reportedly a gang member, Biddle said.

“He fled the scene on foot, reportedly with the gun and is outstanding,” Biddle said. “Eddie is a person of interest.”

Alvirez is Hispanic, 5-feet-4, 110 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, gray or black shorts and Jordan-brand shoes, the sheriff’s department said.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of Alvirez was asked to call sheriff’s Homicide Bureau Detectives F. Hardiman or M. Haggerty at 323-890-5500.
