Details of what led up to the deadly crash were unclear.

The Nos. 1, 2, and 3 lanes of the freeway were closed into the night for an investigation into the accident, the California Highway Patrol said. The No. 4 lane remained open.

All lanes eventually opened, according to a 2 a.m. report from City News Service.
