Three Sentenced for Gang-Related Shooting That Wounded 4-Year-Old Boy

by Contributing Editor

Three gang members were sentenced Tuesday to potential life prison terms for a shooting that wounded a 4-year-old boy in Compton.

Luis Julian Beltran Perez, now 24, was sentenced to 120 years to life in state prison stemming from his conviction last November on two counts of attempted murder and three counts each of shooting at an occupied motor vehicle and attempted voluntary manslaughter.

Edgar Manuel Rosas, now 36, and Salvador Sanchez, 21, were sentenced to 30 years to life in state prison. They were each convicted of two counts of attempted murder and three counts of shooting at an occupied motor vehicle.

Jurors also found true gun and gang allegations against the defendants, who confronted a group of men standing in front of liquor store near Atlantic Avenue and Compton Boulevard on June 7, 2017. Perez retrieved a gun and began shooting at the group, according to Deputy District Attorney Shannon Cooley.

One of the stray bullets struck the 4-year-old boy, who was sitting in a passing vehicle, the prosecutor said.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies rushed the boy in their patrol car to a hospital, where he received immediate life-saving medical attention, according to Cooley.

Perez was arrested the same day, while Rosas was taken into custody several days later and Sanchez was arrested nearly two months later.
