Nine Arrested in Jurupa Valley for Alleged Street Racing

Seven men and two women were arrested for allegedly performing speed exhibitions and driving recklessly in San Bernardino and Riverside counties, authorities said Saturday.

It started at 11 p.m. Friday when a special Riverside County sheriff’s unit to stop street racing received reports of a large group of vehicles traveling throughout western San Bernardino county shutting down public roads to perform speed exhibitions, Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Ponder said.

Deputies responded to the area of Wineville Road and Harrel Street frequented by street racers as the group arrived there, Ponder said.

Four vehicles attempted to flee the area onto private property and tried to ram a deputy’s vehicle as the deputy approached them, he said.

Deputies detained the drivers and occupants of the four vehicles, including one suspect in possession of metal knuckles.

All nine adults were arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting an exhibition of speed. In addtiion, Jesus Salazar, 21, of Norwalk, was booked on suspicion of attempted assault with a deadly weapon for trying to ram the deputy’s vehicle and child endangerment because a 17-year-old girl was in the car, Ponder said. Bryan Herrera, 21, of Fontana was booked on suspicion of weapons possession for the knuckles.

The other arrestees were Ruby Acero, 27, of La Puente; Jerry Andrade, 20, of Compton; Dilmer Herrera, 26, of Fontana; Jose Lopez, 18, of Bell; Viridiana Orozco-Ibarra, 20, of Fontana; Daniel Ortiz, 18, of Bell and William Pulido, 26, of La Puente. The juvenile was released to her parents, Ponder said. The vehicles were impounded for 30 days.
