Temple City Man Charged in Neighbor’s Shooting Death

A Temple City man accused of gunning down his next-door neighbor was charged Wednesday with murder.

Massimo Barbagallo, 46, pleaded not guilty in Monday’s shooting death of Cristian Alarcon.

Barbagallo allegedly shot the unarmed victim at close range during a dispute, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies found the 26-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body about 6 p.m. Monday in the 9400 block of Workman Avenue. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

“It was determined there was an altercation between him (the victim) and a neighbor,” who was arrested about 90 minutes later, sheriff’s Lt. Robert Westphal said. A firearm was recovered, he said.

ABC7 reported that the victim was gunned down outside his home, in front of his young children, when he confronted the suspect over surveillance cameras aimed at the victim’s home. Channel 7 reported that the neighbors had previous disputes.

Barbagallo was ordered to remain jailed in lieu of $3 million bail while awaiting his next appearance Aug. 9 at the Alhambra courthouse.

He could face a potential life prison sentence if convicted as charged, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
