Police in Orange Use Non-Lethal Means to End Standoff

by Contributing Editor

Police in Orange busted out the windows of a reported stolen vehicle Wednesday morning to end a nearly hourlong standoff with the man suspected of stealing the vehicle.

An officer spotted the vehicle stopped in the 1600 block of Katella Avenue at the entrance to Stadium Promenade, an entertainment and restaurant complex just east of Honda Center, about 12:30 a.m. and it was determined the vehicle was reported stolen, according to Sgt. Steve Elfelt of the Orange Police Department.

Additional officers were requested to the scene, but the driver refused to exit the vehicle, Elfelt said.

Officers used non-lethal means to bust out the windows of the vehicle and the driver was taken into custody without incident about 1:15 a.m., he said.

No injuries were reported.
